Porchfests are one of Metro Atlanta’s most community-driven music traditions, and they’re spreading like crazy.
At their core, Porchfests are walkable neighborhood music festivals where local musicians perform at private homes — on porches, driveways, lawns, open garages, and yards. Most also include a few non-home stages at neighborhood restaurants, patios, or small parks, but the majority of the music happens at someone’s house.
They typically run from spring through fall and all except one are free to attend.
Unlike traditional fenced-in festivals, Porchfests have that local community feel. You’ll see neighbors catching up, kids playing together or setting up lemonade stands, residents providing welcoming lawn chairs in their own yards, and musicians performing just a few feet away from the crowd.
Porchfests are built to explore. It’s rare that one house hosts multiple back-to-back acts all day, so plan to move around, even if it's just two houses down.
Music styles can vary widely, from acoustic singer-songwriters and indie rock to youth and dad bands, funk, folk, and experimental sets, but every lineup centers around local artists.
A few tips:
All Porchfests are held in historic districts, making them a great excuse to explore beautiful neighborhoods and long-standing local businesses — from restaurants and shops to small parks you may not have noticed before. I find something new and interesting every time!
